BKNIX is determined to solve the problems of DDoS, which might have impacts on Thai internet users

Thai Network Information Center Foundation (THNICF) in cooperation with BKNIX is holding BKNIX Peering Forum 2017 on 15-16 May 2017 at VIE Hotel Bangkok, Phayathai Road, Ratchathewi. The forum is focusing on the talks about prevention of DDoS attack and the update of technologies for internet users.

Thai Network Information Center Foundation (THNICF) and BKNIX Co., Ltd., the only and the most neutral Internet Exchange Point (IXP) of Thailand, are holding again BKNIX Peering Forum 2017 after receiving the overwhelmingly positive feedback for the previous session. This year the participants from the internet service providers, both in Thailand and in other countries, are given the opportunity to update and exchange information and technology.

Dr. Gotham Arya, the chairman of Thai Network Information Center Foundation (THNICF) said in the opening ceremony, “After the first forum held last year, we received positive feedback. Since last year, BKNIX has grown up with increased number of members and more exchange of internet information. Thus, the administrators have placed an emphasis on the development of different mechanisms with an aim to enhance the service quality. We pay special attention to the network system security. Recently, we have developed the mechanism to relieve the impact of DDoS attack for our members.”

“I am very pleased to see the service providers in Thailand and from other countries attending this event. It is regarded as the great success. The BKNIX Peering Forum is a significant mechanism to build up the strength of internet information exchange system within the country and in the region,” added Dr. Gothom Arya.

Prof. Dr. Kanchana Kanchanasut, Vice Chairman of THNICF, honored with the prestigious title of Internet Pioneer, Internet Hall of Fame by Internet Society, including Postel Service Award for the great contribution to internet, and the initiator of BKNIX, said “The main objective of BKNIX is to reduce the cost of internet service provision in the country, reduce the complexity of data exchange system and increase the speed of data exchange. This annual forum encourages the service providers on infrastructure and data, both in and out of the country, to meet, to exchange knowledge and experience, and to mutually develop their businesses. Also, the forum is seen as an arena to discuss the trends of influential technology, enabling the efficient business administration and mutual internet service provision. This will lead to the benefit of the overall domestic users.”

The BKNIX Peering Forum 2017 includes such interesting issues as Dyn-DDoS and DNS, Design & Deploying of CDN and Cloud, Cloud Driven ICT Transformation, etc. It also features the special lecture from Andrew Sullivan, the former chairman of Internet Architecture Board, as well as many other Thai and foreign expert speakers, e.g. Philip Smith from NSRC, Martin Levy from Cloudflare, Donny Chong from Nexusguard, Dr. Jumpoth Puritatkul from Huawei, etc.

In addition to the exchange of knowledge with the aforementioned speakers, the event offers negotiation points for collaboration among the participants, including internet service providers, content distribution networks, internet data centers, carriers, internet exchange points, and other relevant service providers in Thailand and from other countries such as Australia, India, Canada, England, Ghana, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, USA, Nigeria, Cambodia, Myanmar, etc. There are over 150 participants in this event, most of them are operating communication and internet businesses.

The BKNIX Peering Forum 2017 is sponsored by a variety of institutes, i.e. Huawei, Internet Society, APNIC, Coriant, Netflix, NexusGuard, 3BB, ICANN, INET, Microsoft, TCC Technology, True IDC, CS Loxinfo, Snoc, THNIC and UniNet. The participants will have the opportunity to meet the representatives from these institutes.
