THNIC at APAC DNS Forum 2024, Highlighting Business Trends and ‘.ไทย’ Usage

Dr. Pensri Arunwatanamongkol, the executive director of the THNIC Foundation, spoke at the APAC DNS Forum 2024, held on July 23-24, 2024, in Bali, Indonesia as a panelist in the discussion, “Domain Name Landscape – Current Developments and Business Opportunities”, presenting and exchanging perspectives on emerging business opportunities in the domain name market. She also discussed the use of Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs), emphasizing the success of the ‘.ไทย’.

‘.ไทย’ Domain Continues to Grow, Creating a Thai Identity in the Digital World

Dr. Pensri revealed that ‘.ไทย’ has been in service since 2011 and has steadily gained popularity. Currently, there are over 33,700 registered ‘.ไทย’ domains, reflecting the growing demand for ‘.ไทย’ alongside ‘.th’. The Thai language domain ‘.ไทย’ facilitates easier internet usage for Thai users not proficient in English and aligns with the cultural identity of Thais. Examples include websites of Thai temples such as วัดไทยสามัคคี.ไทย and culturally connected community sites like สินธุ์แพรทอง.ไทย. Furthermore, this initiative extends beyond websites, incorporating Thai language email addresses such as   ยอด@คน.ไทย  to create a broader digital identity.

The APAC DNS Forum 2024, organized by ICANN and PANDI, was held under the theme “Building Bridges: Strengthening Collaboration to Shape the Internet’s Future”.
